Chris Clementi
Hey! I’m Chris – a personal trainer with close to a decade of experience helping people feel stronger, healthier, and more confident in their bodies. Over the years, I have worked with a wide range of clients, but my passion lies in helping older adults move better, improve balance and strength, and feel more capable in their everyday lives.
Originally from South Africa, I am now lucky enough to call Mijas home. I am part of the team that started Protea Performance with the goal of creating a welcoming space where people can move better, feel better, and enjoy the journey, not just chase results.
My coaching style focuses on building real, functional strength - the kind that carries over into everyday life, keeping things simple, and tailoring each session to suit the individual. Whether you’re joining one of our group classes or working with me one-on-one, I am here to support you every step of the way.
When I am not coaching, I am probably training my aunt, Laura or out with my wife, Clarissa, listening to music, or diving into anything related to strength training and health science.
Hope to see you in Protea Performance Club soon!

Laura Oliver
Hi, I am Laura. In 2019, at 42, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer—just when I was at my fittest. I wasn’t an athlete, but I had achieved a black belt in kickboxing and sparred several times a week. At the time, I had no idea how essential fitness would be in getting me through what was to come: five months of chemotherapy, 15 rounds of radiotherapy, 12 months of targeted intravenous immunotherapy and ten surgeries.
My physical strength wasn’t just about muscle—it gave me the capacity to endure treatment, bounce back from surgeries, and keep moving. More than anything, it gave me mental clarity and emotional resilience. Even on my hardest days, movement—gentle, consistent, and mindful—became my anchor. It wasn't about pushing limits; it was about staying grounded.
Now, I continue to rely on movement and nutrition to manage the long-term effects of cancer treatment, including chemo-induced menopause symptoms like joint pain, hot flushes, anxiety, weight gain, and mood swings. I can’t take HRT, so I use food and movement as medicine. It works!
And it’s not just my experience—research shows that being physically active before and during cancer treatment - the same applies for many illnesses - significantly improves a patient’s physical and emotional well-being. Prehabilitation—staying active before treatment—can help reduce the risk of complications, improve surgical recovery, and increase treatment tolerance. During treatment, regular exercise helps reduce fatigue, maintain muscle strength, and support independence, while also improving mood and reducing anxiety and depression.
But it’s vital to do this safely—with support, guidance, and a focus on listening to your body. That’s why I created Protea Performance Club: a place where people can move their bodies, nourish their health, and be part of a community that truly understands.
Here, fitness isn’t about being thin or extreme. It’s about building your fitness to live your life to the full!
